The project needed to address critical risks of heating outages while aligning with government priorities on decarbonisation. An air source heat pump (ASHP) solution was appraised as part of a costed options review. While highly sustainable, ASHP installation was deemed unfeasible at this stage due to prohibitive cost and site constraints, alongside the requirement to maintain operational resilience for a large primary school. The challenge lay in balancing urgent replacement needs with future readiness for low-carbon heating.
Carré Consultancy prepared a full technical specification and tender package in line with CIF guidance. A closed competitive tender was undertaken, securing Nixon Farrow Ltd as the preferred contractor on a cost-certainty basis. The solution adopted was a modern condensing modular boiler installation, supported by new pipework, insulation, radiators, zoning valves, and advanced digital controls integrated with a Building Management System.

Through strategic procurement and technical leadership, Carré Consultancy ensured best value, compliance with CIF requirements, and a solution that balances immediate operational needs with the school’s long-term sustainability journey.
