As a non-standard store design, the Newbury Park project required bespoke detailing and extensive pre-construction coordination. Early inspections revealed that critical construction phase information, such as wind load calculations, drainage detailing, and soffit and canopy designs remained outstanding.
In addition, delivery delays to the specified composite roof panels from manufacturer ArcelorMittal risked programme slippage. Variations to the roof panel liner specification also required detailed review to ensure continued compliance with Lidl’s quality and safety expectations.
Carré’s role was to ensure design integrity, workmanship quality, and technical compliance throughout the construction phase.
By February 2024, the roofing and cladding installations were completed to a high standard. Minor water ingress and M&E weathering issues were identified and rectified ahead of handover, with photographic evidence provided for certification.
Carré’s proactive inspection process ensured compliance with Lidl’s exacting quality standards despite the project’s bespoke design and material changes. The finished building achieved Lidl’s operational and safety requirements, supporting timely store opening and demonstrating the value of robust, independent quality assurance on complex retail conversions.
