The works combined overcladding of the existing retail roof with new build extensions, creating complex junctions between old and new structures. Key technical challenges included achieving continuous weatherproofing across transitions, maintaining consistent workmanship, and ensuring adequate drainage performance given legacy roof layouts.
Access restrictions during certain phases and the need to inspect active work areas within a live construction environment required precise coordination with site management to ensure safety and minimal disruption.
Carré Consultancy undertook three structured inspections between May and September 2025, each capturing the evolving stages of installation.
The team conducted detailed visual and photographic reviews of roof and cladding works, evaluated fixings, vapour control layers, insulation coverage, gutter linings, weld integrity, and drainage arrangements.
Through collaboration with the contractor and specialist installers, Carré identified and advised on improvements to workmanship—such as consistent fixing torque, proper engagement of butyl tape seals, and refinement of gutter detailing. Recommendations were provided on-site and in follow-up reports, promoting proactive correction of issues before handover.
The inspections ensured that the roofing and cladding systems were completed to a high standard of compliance and durability. Observations and corrective actions addressed early signs of workmanship variance, securing the integrity of weathering details and drainage systems.
Carré’s independent quality control service provided B&M Retail and Havercroft Construction Ltd with confidence that the new store envelope met the required technical standards and manufacturer specifications—delivering a resilient, well-detailed finish ready for commercial operation.
