Challenge

The primary challenge involved assessing the installation of a complex overclad roofing system while maintaining compliance with building control requirements despite the omission of new insulation. Additional risks related to inconsistent use of vapour control layers and butyl tapes, potential for water ingress, and ensuring workmanship met expected tolerances. The site also presented logistical considerations—ongoing installation activities and environmental sensitivities, including nesting birds protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Solution

Carré Consultancy conducted a detailed on-site inspection supported by photographic documentation and cross-referenced against Euroclad installation guidance. The inspection covered sheet alignment, fixing quality, sealing details, and interface conditions at ridges, gutters, and abutments. Our report provided technical commentary and practical remedial advice, including:-

• Confirmation of acceptable workmanship and alignment of fixings using string lines
• Recommendations to double the butyl tape application at laps for improved vapour resistance
• Advice on sealing and riveting redundant fixing holes and repairing impact damage to maintain coating integrity
